Shrine on Airline Begins $28.5M Renovation
Jefferson Parish leaders and the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District are in preliminary talks with a soccer team to make the Shrine on Airline their new home when a nearly $30 million renovation is complete next year, according to a source close to the project.
The $28.5 million makeover of the Metairie landmark is set for completion by June 2027. When the Shrine reopens next June, Jefferson Parish officials said it will serve as a high school football field and event space.
Landing a permanent tenant is the goal, the source said.
Up to $5 million has already been fronted to Broadmoor Construction to begin demolition. The crew must meet the June 2027 completion deadline.
Last week's heavy rain didn't slow down the Gulf Shores High School football team, and it won't have to moving forward.
The Dolphins are practicing in their new covered outdoor facility at the new high school campus, which is set to open to students in the fall.
The $137 million campus includes a field house, competition gym, weight room, film study theaters and the covered practice facility, which makes weather much less of a factor in how and when athletes can get their reps in.
The Dolphins will compete in Class 5A Region 1 this season.
Brother Martin HS Begins Major Renovation of Athletic Complex
Brother Martin High School is proud to announce the start of renovations to E.A. Farley Field. This comprehensive reimagining of the historic athletic complex represents Phase I of the school’s latest capital campaign, Building for Champions, a significant investment in facilities that will benefit current and future Crusaders while supporting the school’s mission of forming young men for life.
“We are excited to begin work in earnest on E.A. Farley Field,” said Brother Martin President Greg Rando ’77. “This project symbolizes the continued strength and growth of Brother Martin High School. We are grateful for the generosity and vision of those who have made this project possible and excited to provide a resource that will serve generations of Crusaders for years to come.”
Farley Field serves as the home venue for Crusader baseball and soccer and as the primary practice facility for football and track and field. The transformational renovation will feature the installation of synthetic turf, allowing expanded use by athletic programs, extracurricular and co-curricular clubs and activities, intramurals, and physical education classes.
