Washington D.C. Announces Master Plan for Commanders' Stadium Development
The District’s Office of Planning on Tuesday unveiled a draft master plan for the 180-acre area surrounding the future Washington Commanders stadium at the former RFK Stadium site.
The long-term development framework outlines plans for 5,500 to 6,500 housing units of housing, with at least 30% designated as affordable housing. It also includes commercial development, parks and recreational space across the 180-acre site, that would be organized into six districts.
“We think that we’ve done a good job creating a kind of a balance for all the kinds of uses that people expect for a place like this that’s got a lot of transit options, that’s got a lot of options for biking and pedestrian and opportunities as well,” D.C. Office of Planning Director Anita Cozart told WTOP.
New Renderings of Vancouver Giants Arena in Surrey City Centre
This will be the new home of the Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL) beginning in 2030.
The City of Surrey and Vancouver Giants announced today they have signed an agreement in principle to engage in a partnership to pursue a high-density, mixed-use redevelopment with a 10,000-seat indoor arena in Surrey City Centre.
“City Centre Arena and Cultural Event Centre” will be built at the 5.1-acre former Safeway grocery store site at 10355 King George Blvd. at the southwest corner of the intersection of 104 Avenue and King George Boulevard, immediately east of Surrey City Hall and SkyTrain’s Surrey Central Station. This effectively cancels the City’s previous preferred vision to redevelop the municipally-owned BC Lions training facility a few blocks to the north.
Oregon State Announces Expansion of Baseball Stadium
Oregon State University leaders today announced plans for an expansion of Goss Stadium at Coleman Field, made possible by an anonymous $15 million gift to the OSU Foundation. The project includes a new right-field structure, adding permanent bleacher seating, a dedicated clubhouse, office space for the Corvallis Knights Baseball Club and additional amenities for fans. News of the gift follows the university’s recent announcements of the $48 million Valley Challenge for Student-Athletes and $25 million in gifts for the new Field Sports Building.
“This project is another powerful example of philanthropic momentum for OSU Athletics, demonstrating our community’s shared ambition to compete and win at the highest level,” said Jayathi Y. Murthy, Oregon State president. “I am grateful to the donor for their generosity and to Coach Mitch Canham, the Corvallis Knights and the OSU Foundation, for working together to make this investment possible.”
