Space Coast Pro Soccer Plans New Stadium in Melbourne, Fla.

With the World Cup captivating sports fans across the country, Melbourne is looking at potentially scoring a goal itself.

Space Coast Pro Soccer has proposed an 8,000-seat stadium as part of a nearly 53.8-acre development next to Melbourne Orlando International Airport. The stadium would be home to a yet-to-be-named professional soccer club that would compete in the United Soccer League.

A new soccer stadium is being built on a nearly 60-acre site at the intersection of NASA Boulevard and Broadband Drive.

According to Space Coast Pro Soccer's Thomas Bonner, the stadium will seat 8,000 fans.

“We are very familiar with Brevard," Bonner said. "We started in Orlando — this is the same team to market over there."
