Chicago City Council Earmarks $424M for Chicago Fire Stadium
A Chicago City Council committee approved Monday the financing package for infrastructure around the new Chicago Fire stadium, located on the parcel of land known as "The 78."
The finance committee advanced a plan to invest more than $400 million in improvements and infrastructure around the site of the new stadium.
The stadium itself is being privately financed, but the $424 million in Tax Increment Funding (TIF) money will go toward a series of improvements around the site, which is located at "The 78" development in the South Loop.
According to officials, the package includes $216 million for a parking garage, $100 million in road improvements, $36 million for Metra upgrades and other items like an improved river wall along the banks of the Chicago River and improved pedestrian access to the site.
Irvine Launches $42M Aquatics Center Expansion
Improvements are currently underway at the William Woollett Jr. Aquatics Center.
Construction has begun on a major expansion that will bring new amenities for residents of all ages — including an additional pool, splash pad, Ninja Cross obstacle course, modern locker rooms, expanded bleacher seating, sports lighting, accessibility enhancements, and a new parking lot along Walnut Avenue.
The project is being completed by the City of Irvine Public Works & Sustainability Department and its contractor, S.J. Amoroso Construction Company.
The Woollett Aquatics Center and nearby facilities will remain open throughout construction, which is expected to be completed in spring 2028. Sidewalks along Walnut Avenue may be temporarily rerouted as needed to maintain safe pedestrian access to the high school, park, and aquatics center.
