Chesterfield Officially Opens The Park at River City Sportsplex

The culmination of years of intentional thought, planning and hard work became a reality on Thursday when Chesterfield County Parks and Recreation was able to officially open The Park at River City Sportsplex.

The “park within a park” is a first of its kind for Chesterfield, as the 115-acre facility on Genito Road gains a 2,000-square-foot splash pad with various water features as well as a destination playground, a game space for tweens and teens, an accessible climbing structure and multiple walking and exercise trails.

“It’s great for everyone,” said Jessica Schneider of the Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors (Clover Hill), in referencing all of the ways the park invites those of different ages and abilities. “This is truly a park for everyone … I think this will be accessible throughout the year. And I think this is a great way to support everyone and everything that’s happening. Everybody should come out and enjoy this.”

Last week, the South St. Paul City Council approved construction documents and a list of pre-qualified subcontractors for the roughly $10 million Northview Aquatics Center, which will include a new outdoor pool, a concessions stand and support spaces.

The new facility, funded in part with $4.25 million from the 2026 state bonding bill, will be built within the city’s Northview Park, which is on Thompson Avenue near Highway 52 in South St. Paul.

Coral Springs Moves Forward With Sportsplex Redesign

Coral Springs is moving ahead with plans to redesign its Sportsplex, but the project is taking a more measured path, and, for now, without the property tax rate increase previously proposed to help pay for it.

City officials said they are negotiating an agreement with PBK Architects, Florida Inc. for a phased approach to architectural design and engineering services for the Sportsplex Optimization Project.

The agreement is being revised based on feedback and direction provided by the city commission during a budget workshop held last month.
