The City of Yukon, Okla., Announces Planned Athletic Center
The City of Yukon announced the Young Family Athletic Center, a youth sports and recreation facility, will serve as the first publicly announced component of a larger mixed-use development planned along the Yukon Parkway corridor.
City officials said Oklahoma native and NBA All-Star Trae Young, along with the Young Family Athletic Foundation, is leading the project. The athletic center will anchor development on recently annexed property across from Yukon High School.
City officials said the broader master-planned development is expected to include:
- Retail space
- Restaurants
- Hotels and hospitality
- Medical office space
- Public infrastructure to support future growth
DeSoto Opens New $53M Aquatics & Recreation Center
For more than a decade, residents of DeSoto, Texas have envisioned a multigenerational recreation and indoor aquatics center that would serve both community recreation needs and provide a competitive venue for basketball, volleyball, pickleball and swimming and supports other athletic competitions.
Designed in partnership by KAI and SmithGroup, the City of DeSoto’s new $53 million Aquatics & Recreation Center (ARC) officially opened to the public in April at 1400 Academy Way in Curtistene S. McCowan Park.
The ARC project is part of a larger master plan for the park, which includes plans for an amphitheater, water features, sculpture garden, walking trails and additional sports fields. The KAI and SmithGroup team also provided program validation, community engagement, bidding support and construction administration services on the project.
“We spent a lot of time putting the plan together and the citizens have been telling us for over a decade that this is something that is important to them and something that they wanted to see,” said Chris Glover, former Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of DeSoto.
Designed to support the health and wellness needs of residents of all ages while also serving as a premier destination for competitive athletics, highlights of the 75,000-square-foot, two-story ARC facility include:
- 8-lane competition pool
- Leisure pool with observation decks on the second level
- 400-foot fitness track suspended above the first level
- Fully equipped fitness and strength training area
- Meeting rooms
- Locker rooms
- Gymnasiums
- Administrative offices
- Social gathering spaces
Video Board Enhancements Slated for Ohio State's Schottenstein Center
The Schottenstein Center is set to deliver a dramatically enhanced game-day atmosphere with the installation of new, state-of-the-art video boards throughout the arena. The comprehensive upgrades will elevate the fan experience with larger displays, significantly improved resolution and new immersive viewing angles. Altogether, the upgrades provide more than 7,200 square feet of LED display technology and nearly 64 million pixels throughout the venue.
“We’ve seen how electric the atmosphere at the Schottenstein Center can be”, Ross Bjork, Sr. Vice President & Wolfe Foundation - Eugene Smith Endowed Director of Athletics said. “The last two men’s basketball games last year, the Michigan series for men’s hockey and the NCAA Tournament games for women basketball were prime examples a great environment for the fans and the athletes and we want to continue to build on those experiences. The enhancements to the video boards will deliver sharper visuals, allow for more dynamic content, and provide greater connectivity to the action. We want the fans to feel immersed in every moment, from the time they walk in the door until end of the game.”
