California Street Campus Brings Together Athletics and STEM
Leddy Maytum Stacy Architects has completed the California Street Campus, a new 4,459 m² (48,000 sf) academic and athletic facility in downtown San Francisco. The project is the first ground-up building in the more than 40-year history of San Francisco University High School. It plays a key role in modernizing and reorganizing the school’s multi-building urban campus.
The new California Street Campus replaces a 1940s-era strip mall and surface parking lot. The urban infill project transforms an underused site into a high-performance education facility. It also gives the school a stronger presence along California Street while enhancing the surrounding mixed-use, transit-oriented neighborhood.
The building brings together academic and athletic programs that were previously spread across multiple buildings and city blocks. All STEM classrooms and faculty offices now occupy a single naturally daylit floor. The new layout encourages collaboration, improves visibility, and creates a better learning environment.
OKC Thunder Select Local Artist for Arena's Main Floor Design
Oklahoma City has selected the design of local artist Matt Goad for the main concourse floor at Continental Coliseum, the future home of the Thunder that opens ahead of the 2028-29 NBA season.
The blueish terrazzo concourse floor will likely consist of an amalgamation of shell, recycled glass, porcelain and reflective mirror aggregates.
Goad’s design, titled “One Voice. One OKC,” is intended to represent the overlapping sound waves of Oklahoma City’s collective voices spreading across the 80,000-square-foot main concourse floor. He previously produced an artistic design for a similar project, the terrazzo floor at OKC Will Rogers International Airport. Goad’s work is being funded through Oklahoma City’s “1% for Art” ordinance, which requires 1% of the construction budget for city-owned buildings, parks and trails to be set aside for public art. He was one of 30 artists from around the world who responded to an RFP.
New Youth Volleyball Facility Planned for St. Gabriel
Red Storm XI Volleyball Club will open a new volleyball facility in St. Gabriel for young female athletes to train and play.
In a social media post Tuesday, the club said its new home will be located in the former Premier Soccer Center in St. Gabriel.
Club leaders said the new facility has been a long-term goal. It will give girls of all skill levels a dedicated place to train, compete, and grow in the sport.
“This has been a dream of ours for a long time — a place where athletes can be challenged, encouraged and reminded that they’re capable of more than they think,” the club said in its announcement. ” We don’t just want to be another gym. We want it to be a place where players feel like they belong. A place where hard work matters, teammates become family, and every athlete is seen, supported, and pushed to reach her full potential on and off the court.”
