Raiders Eyeing $158M Upgrade to Allegiant Stadium
In 2020, the Las Vegas Raiders debuted their new home, officially moving into Allegiant Stadium. Despite opening only six years ago, the Raiders are reportedly eyeing $158 million in stadium upgrades, according to NFL beat writer Adam Schefter.
"The Las Vegas Raiders are eyeing improvements to Allegiant Stadium, home of Super Bowl 63. On the agenda later today for the Las Vegas Stadium Authority: a $158 million improvement to the stadium's North Entry, which will create a new "front door" for the stadium, including a pedestrian deck, public plaza, event deck and other transportation improvements. The Raiders are seeking $75 million from LVSA, which would come from an existing taxpayer fund allocated to Allegiant Stadium-related improvements and will privately fund the remainder," Schefter wrote on X.
Allegiant Stadium faced some obstacles in 2020, notably from the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, it has overcome those and been one of the nicest new stadiums in the NFL. Allegiant Stadium already hosted Super Bowl LIV, which featured one of the best games in league history. Additionally, it hosted WrestleMania 41 and 42. Despite these accolades, the team still looks to add some improvements.
LeTorneau University Celebrates Opening of Athletic & Human Performance Air Dome
LeTourneau University ushered in a new era for its track and field programs on Wednesday as it celebrated the grand opening of its new Athletic & Human Performance Air Dome.
LeTourneau's new 8-story, 120,000-square-foot inflatable dome will house a 200-meter banked track with seating for 1,500 visitors and make the university a prime location to host national and regional track and field meets.
Tim Seegal, vice president of LeTourneau University's athletic department, believes the new dome will boost the economy of Longview and East Texas.
"We do think that this will be an economic boost to the city when you consider the hotel nights, but then also the food and the restaurants that will be engaged with, and then all of the just fun entertainment opportunities that Longview has to offer," Seegal said. "We're excited for them to explore, and so obviously that has a benefit for our campus, but then also for Longview and East Texas as well."
San Angelo School District Breaks Ground on Facilities Upgrades
San Angelo Independent School District will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for campus improvements from the voter-approved bond starting at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Lake View High School.
The improvements include Career and Technical Education additions and renovations, a new dedicated Mariachi Hall, athletic facility upgrades, locker room renovations and other campus enhancements.
