Iowa Breaks Ground on New Field Hockey Operations Center
The University of Iowa community gathered Thursday for a milestone groundbreaking ceremony, marking the official start of construction on a state-of-the-art Field Hockey Operations Center adjacent to Grant Field. The special event brought together university leadership, coaches, donors, and student-athletes to celebrate a long-awaited moment that will forever transform the Hawkeye field hockey program.
"This facility is a long-overdue home for a program that has brought so much pride and success to the University of Iowa," President Barbara Wilson said during the ceremony. "When we invest in state-of-the-art facilities like this, we are investing directly in our student-athletes—giving them the tools, resources, and community space they need to thrive both on the field and in the classroom.”
The building will centralize and elevate the student-athlete experience for generations to come.
Oklahoma Moves Forward With 'Palace Project' Renovations to Oklahoma Memorial Stadium
“The Palace Project,” the extensive renovations on Gaylord Family — Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, will move forward, Oklahoma athletic director Roger Denny said Thursday in a meeting with reporters.
But the details of what exactly the project will look like are still under evaluation, with Denny saying the retooled plans would be announced “in the months ahead.”
The project was announced in November and included renderings of the planned work.
Denny had yet to take over when the project was announced and had said in recent months that the project was being evaluated.
“That project is going to happen,” Denny said. “The question is just what it’s going to look like, what it’s going to consist of. … A lot of the elements that are there are really, really good elements for that project, for our program, for our fanbase, and for our community. …
“It will be a little bit different than what you’ve seen before. A lot of the elements there were really well thought out by our team. We'll continue to make sure that the stuff that makes sense is included in the project.”
North Point Mall Arena and Mixed-Use Development Goes Before Alpharetta Committee
A proposal to redevelop North Point Mall into a mixed-use mini-city anchored by a 20,000-seat arena goes before the Alpharetta City Council today for a crucial vote.
Why it matters: The 100-acre project by Atlanta-based developer Jamestown and New York Life would turn an unremarkable mall into a walkable district served by housing, offices and retail with an arena designed for an NHL team.
Driving the news: The Alpharetta City Council will vote this evening whether to approve the zoning changes needed to build the project.
Zoom in: Jamestown, the company behind Ponce City Market and Buckhead Village, wants to build up to 1,385 apartments, 650 hotel rooms and more than 1.3 million square feet of office, retail and restaurant space.
