Facility Friday: Louisville Stadium Upgrades, Minnesota Wild Practice Facility

Crews at the University of Louisville have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on the $63 million expansion project at Cardinal Stadium. The project increased the stadium’s seating capacity by about 5,400, and added field-level suites, premium and club seating. The school’s partnership with apparel manufacturer adidas is literally built into the stadium — the brand’s three-stripe logo is in the new seating area in gray. — Courier Journal

The Minnesota Wild is moving into a new practice facility this week. The 22,800-square-foot project features the shared-use TRIA rink, with seating for 1,200. Up to 5,000 hours of ice time will be made available to the public each year. The rink features floor-to-ceiling SageGlass, which is capable of changing tint based on the amount of daylight. In addition to the ice, the new facility offers a a 1,300-square-foot dressing room, a 4,300-square-foot weight room, a 1,100-square-foot whirlpool room, a theater room and a kitchen area. — NHL.com

Louisiana State University is debuting its new in-stadium beer section, The Chute, this weekend for the Tiger football team’s home opener. The space features a gigantic video board and TVs throughout. Fans can access the space for $20, which includes the price of two beers. — WAFB.com

The Nashville Metro Council this week voted to approve plans to build a Major League Soccer stadium at the city Fairgrounds. The move calls for 10 acres of land to be rezoned, certain buildings to be demolished, and for $50 million in bonds to support infrastructure for the project. The council also approved a resolution to build a soccer practice facility. — WKRN.com
