For the second time in three years, the Palm Beaches Marathon will be organized by a new ownership group, although this time it's not expected that the average runner will notice significant changes.

Life Time Fitness Inc., a publicly owned company based in Chanhassen, Minn., has purchased the race from US Road Sports & Entertainment Group, which organized the 2012 and 2013 editions.

This year's 11th annual event is scheduled for Dec. 5-7 along Flagler Drive in West Palm Beach.

Life Time Fitness made a package deal to purchase a handful of US Road Sports events, including the Miami Marathon and Half Marathon, which will celebrate its 12th running Feb. 2 with an expected sellout turnout of 25,000.

Also in the sale are half-marathons in Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach as well as the Salt Lake City Marathon, Georgia Marathon, New Jersey Marathon, Publix Escape to Miami Triathlon and Baptist Health South Florida Turkey Trot.

In two years, US Road Sports helped nurse the Palm Beaches Marathon back to health following an unsuccessful and often rocky period under previous owner Chris Devine.

This past December, organizers ceased accepting applications for the marathon (after 866 signed up) and half-marathon (2,592 entries) as race weekend approached. There also were 964 marathon relay runners divided into teams of four and a few hundred more who competed in 5K and 10K races that kicked off the weekend's activities.
