University of Wisconsin System regents recently granted authority to University of Wisconsin-Platteville to construct a 59,000-square-foot addition to the Williams Fieldhouse complex, according to a press release.

The $15.3 million project will include a three-court gymnasium and suspended track, exercise studio, athletic training suite, locker room, storage and expanded cardio, free weight and functional training areas.

An outdoor, multi-sport, artificial turf field and storage building will accommodate space demand for football, lacrosse, rugby, soccer and ultimate frisbee, the release states.

According to a project description, the addition addresses a deficit of on-campus wellness, recreation and fitness space, a consequence of enrollment growth. New playing courts will be used by club, intramural and varsity sports and open recreation users. The addition also will house the physical education department.
