2016 SportsArt survey reveals consumers take note of their gym’s stance on green initiatives

SEATTLE (November 29, 2016) – SportsArt, a leader in sustainable gym equipment, announces today the results of its 2016 survey on gym sustainability, looking at the preference of consumers when it comes to the option of sustainable and eco-friendly gym equipment. The survey found that 62.4 percent of consumers prefer to work out at a gym if it uses environmentally-friendly equipment.

“SportsArt’s ECO-POWR cardio line turns human energy into utility grade electricity through a micro-inverter similar to the technology found in solar panels and wind turbines,” said Ivo Grossi, Vice President of SportsArt. “When plugged into a power outlet, the equipment will convert human energy into electricity – this can produce up to 160 kilowatts of utility grade electricity per unit per hour which allows gyms to create incentive programs for their members and save money.”

Key findings in the study dig deeper in how most consumers feel about these incentive programs, with 70-percent saying they would prefer to be a member at a gym if it implemented incentive and discount programs for users who expended a certain amount of energy for electricity at the gym. Additionally, more than 63 percent of consumers claimed they would be more motivated to push themselves during gym workouts if the energy generated was converted into utility-grade electricity for the gym.

“Gyms need to look at additional ways to motivate their members to work out – incorporating sustainable solutions such as an incentive program can be highly successful in doing so,” said Grossi. “Not only will our equipment provide gym members with discounts, but gyms will be able to save money in the long term – owners can calculate their potential savings using SportsArt’s eco-calculator

The survey analyzed data from 200 consumers ages 30 to 60 years old, with an average household income higher than $50,000, and those who exercised five to eight times per month. Additional results the survey revealed was that half of consumers would be more inclined to live a more sustainable life if their gym supported green initiatives.

Currently, SportsArt’s Eco-POWR line is used in 400 gyms and hotels across the world and plans to double that number within the next 12 months.
