The University of Memphis is addressing fans' concerns surrounding gameday operations after the university held its first football game Saturday in Simmon's Bank Liberty Stadium following completion of its two-year, $226.5 million renovation.

Many who attended the home opener were vocal about their issues with the new stadium experience.

"We recognize that our first home game fell short," read a statement attributed to Memphis director of intercollegiate athletics Ed Scott, as reported by local ABC affiliate WATN. "We are identifying what needs to change, putting solutions in place and holding ourselves and our partners accountable for delivering a better experience each time Tiger Nation walks through the gates."

Despite the Tigers' 42-24 victory over Arkansas State in front of 43,000 fans, Scott's statement alluded to issues with parking, stadium entry, concessions and "other aspects of the gameday experience."

"We take that feedback seriously," Scott said. "As an athletic department, we own our responsibility to deliver a great experience from the moment you arrive at the stadium until the moment you leave. We are already working closely with the City of Memphis, Oak View Group and Sodexo Live! to evaluate what happened and make immediate improvements.

"A sellout crowd in a newly renovated stadium presents unique operational challenges, but we will not use that as an excuse."

According to WATN's Jeremiah Hall, Scott "did not address specific issues — nor did he offer any concrete solutions — but Scott said leadership recognizes the need to provide an experience that matches the university's expectations."
