A parent and an assistant coach have been arrested and are facing multiple charges after attacking the coach of an opposing team.

According to 6 ABC, the attack happened after a seven- and eight-year-old’s basketball game at Holy Child School at Rosemont.

The assistant coach, Brittany Ortiz, was allegedly cursing and shouting during the game. When the opposing coach approached her after the game regarding this behavior, a verbal altercation began. The altercation continued into the hallway, where it escalated into a physical altercation.

Witness reports claimed Ortiz grabbed the opposing coach’s wife by the hair and threw her to the ground. She then attempted to kick the opposing coach in the groin. That was when William Stanley, Ortiz’s father, got involved. Stanley struck the opposing coach while the coach held his three-year-old daughter. Both victims sustained injuries from the attack by Ortiz and Stanley.

The wife suffered a concussion and cuts to her head and the opposing coach was bruised. Even the young child sustained bruises from the attack.

Now, Stanley and Ortiz are facing several charges, including assault on a sports official and simple assault.

“It's incumbent on coaches and adults alike at any children's sporting event to act like the adults in the room, because we are,” said Lt. Michael Keenan of the Lower Merion, Penn., Police Department. “We're there to foster a safe learning and playing environment for the kids. People get heated, it's understandable. We like to compete. But when your little kids are involved, and you are their stewards, you have to act like it.”

According to Patch.com, Stanley and Ortiz were released on $10,000 bail, and their preliminary hearings are scheduled for March 5.
