A former Bedford County (Va.) Parks & Recreation director has filed a lawsuit seeking $7 million, claiming he was fired after raising concerns about a local youth sports organization.
As reported by ABC affiliate WSET in Lynchburg, Christopher Higgins is suing Bedford County and members of the Forest Youth Athletic Association. Higgins alleges he discovered concerns involving the FYAA organization, including alleged rule violations and misuse of taxpayer resources, and reported them to county leadership.
The lawsuit alleges the county fired Higgins in violation of whistleblower laws after he spoke up. He is seeking $5 million in damages from FYAA and $2 million from the county, along with back pay and full reinstatement to his job, WSET reported.
