A former high school athletics director and three former high school football coaches in Texas have been arrested and indicted on charges related to alleged injuries to or endangerment of a child.
The charges stem from March of last year when Texas Leadership Charter Academy in San Angelo held an intense exercise drill reportedly resulted in several student-athletes needing medical attention.
The disciplinary drill allegedly involved 400 push-ups. Sources claimed that 10 students' bodies "began to shut down" during the drill.
According to KTXS, which obtained court records related to the case, the indictment includes four counts of injury to a child, elderly person or disabled person by reckless conduct with intent to cause bodily injury, a state jail felony. It also includes four counts of abandoning or endangering a child through intentional, knowing, reckless or criminally negligent conduct, also state jail felonies.
The drill was implemented after one student allegedly forgot his workout clothes and several others arrived late.
The four men involved include former TGSCO athletics director Kent Sherrill, and former TGSCO coaches Emmanuel Serna, Bradley Oh and Brandon Richardson.
