At least five University of Alabama football players have tested positive for COVID-19, according to BamaOnLine.com, which cites multiple sources in its report.
Players had just returned to Tuscaloosa this week to begin voluntary workouts. As part of that process, they were tested for the virus.
“The health and safety of our student-athletes is a top priority,” the school said in a statement. “Resources and protocols are in place to ensure they receive the best medical care when returning to campus. Due to privacy laws we cannot share information specific to the health of our student-athletes.”
The SEC is allowing teams to resume voluntary in-person activities on at the discretion of each school, beginning June 8.
As a result of COVID-19, the SEC had suspended all activities until May 31. June 8 marks the beginning of transition period that will allow student-athletes to gradually adapt to full training and activities.
