Missouri Volleyball Displaced by Flooding

It appears likely that the University of Missouri women’s volleyball team has played its last game at the Hearnes Center for the season.

According to Columbia, Mo., ABC affiliate KMIZ, flooding caused by a water main break damaged the arena floor, causing at least $100,000 of damage. Crews worked to remove the arena floor after the break, and now it appears as though the volleyball team will host its games at Mizzou Arena for the foreseeable future.

The water main was located on an exterior line, on the west side of the arena. The Columbia Missourian reports that thousands of gallons of water rushed into the arena, cascading down the stairs from the mezzanine area and onto the floor.

In addition to the damage done to the floor, walls will need to be checked for cracks. Depending on the extent of the damage, additional mitigation measures may need to be implemented.

Missouri’s next home volleyball game is set for October 5.
