Virginia Tech University recently held grand opening ceremonies for its new ballpark, English Field at Union Park. Designed by CannonDesign, the facility features a new, larger seating area, grass terraces, a three-tier hospitality deck, private suites and a picnic area. The project also renovated the existing Weaver Baseball Center, which includes a new locker room, player lounge space, laundry facilities and a team video room. —Press Release
Auburn University’s board of trustees approved a number of upgrades for sports facilities, slated for completion in 2019. Player development facilities for the school’s baseball and softball teams, as well as a locker room renovation for Auburn Arena, each received final approval to move forward. Plans call for 10,000-square-foot facilities for both baseball and softball, including things such as batting cages, player evaluation spaces and an indoor field. The basketball arena renovation calls for an expanded locker room and team lounge area, and new entries to the women’s basketball locker room. — AL.com

The University of Nevada is set to break ground on a new grand entrance at the school’s football stadium ahead of its annual spring game on Saturday. The Donald L. Jensen Plaza will mimic the entrance on the stadium’s south side, creating an arched gateway, a small ticket office, and a brick plaza area for fans to gather. —Reno Gazette Journal
Old Dominion University announced additional upgrades to come to Foreman Field, apart from an already-planned $65 million renovation. The project will now also include a new scoreboard and a new synthetic turf field. The Foreman Field renovation project is expected to be complete in 2019. —The Virginian-Pilot
