In Dayton, Ohio, the Wright State athletic department has finished the new Tobey Family Golf Studio, a state-of-the-art training facility for the Raider men's golf program.
At nearly 2,700 square feet, the new space provides student-athletes with access to the tools necessary to work on their game, regardless of outdoor weather conditions.
Located inside the Nutter Center, the Tobey Family Golf Studio boasts 1,100 square feet of artificial putting green, installed by ProPutt.
The Tom & Ellie Shulman Putting Green, which also features dedicated chipping patches, features natural contours that mimic conditions players will find on the course. The length of the green allows for putts of up to 60 feet.
Along with the putting green, players also have access to two hitting bays, each complete with a Foresight GC3 launch monitor.
The David & Sandy McSemek Hitting Bays allow players to obtain accurate and instant feedback on the measurables within every shot.
The facility also features the Bob & Linda Nevin Coach's Office, as well as custom-built lockers for players to store their clubs and other equipment.
The University of Maryland, College Park Terrapins celebrated the start of work on the Stanley Bobb Baseball Player Development Center last week.
The 8,500-square-foot facility will have defined spaces for both pitchers and hitters in a climate-controlled environment.
The Development Center facility will also feature pitching and hitting technology for the use of increased analytics.
The project is one of the many as part of Maryland's Building Champions initiative, a campaign that has already seen the completion of Jones Hill House, football's indoor facility, and a brand new facility dedicated to the perennial national championship competing field hockey and women's lacrosse programs.
The Terps open the 2024 season Friday, as the team faces the Georgia Southern Eagles on the road.
More projects:
- The Young Family Athletic Center in Norman, Okla., held its grand opening this week. The 122,000-square-foot center built on a 12-acre site opened is opening its doors Tuesday with the start of YFAC Basketball League play. The facility features two competitive swimming and diving pools, nine basketball courts with 12 overlaid volleyball courts and 18 pickleball courts. It also houses a 25,000-square-foot space that will serve as a sports and human performance center with physician clinics.
- The Cleveland Browns are reportedly looking to buy land in a suburb south of Cleveland that could be used to build a new NFL stadium — maybe a domed one — if the Browns are unable to work out an agreement with the city after their lease expires in 2028. The Browns have been in talks about renovating their lakefront stadium, which opened in 1999 after the NFL awarded Cleveland an expansion franchise. The team has made no firm plans about moving from its downtown home, but the Browns have been exploring other options.
