The Salt Lake Bees' new Daybreak stadium will seat a little more than initially estimated when ground broke on the project last year.
Miller Sports and Entertainment, the team's owner, unveiled new renderings and stadium details Thursday as construction continues on the new ballpark set to open next year. The team is also now accepting deposits for 2025 season tickets.
The ballpark — Daybreak Field at America First Square — will contain 6,500 fixed seats and space for an additional 1,500 fans on a grassy berm in the stadium's outfield.
While much smaller than the 15,400-seat Smith's Ballpark the Bees are departing, the projected 8,000-fan capacity is 500 more than Miller Sports and Entertainment — a division within the Larry H. Miller Company — announced in October. [KSL]
Northeastern University plans to replace a historic, 114-year-old arena that once served as home to the Boston Bruins and the Boston Celtics.
Matthews Arena, located on Saint Botolph Street near Massachusetts Ave., opened in 1910 and is billed by the university as "the world's oldest multi-purpose athletic building" and home to the "world's oldest artificial ice sheet." Northeastern University took ownership of the building in 1979 and uses the facility for hockey and basketball games.
It was originally known as the Boston Arena. The facility was renamed by the university in recognition of George J. Matthews, Class of 1956, and his late wife.

After years of feeling neglected, Castle Park High School students celebrated breaking ground on a brand new stadium Thursday.
“Around this day marks two years that we launched our movement,” said Castle Park Senior Adrian Gomez.
FOX 5/KUSI first met Gomez in 2022 when he was leading the charge for change on the campus. Dozens of people spoke out at school board meetings drawing attention to areas at the school in dire need of repair or long overdue for an upgrade.
The slogan “Why Not Us” went on shirts and signs and soon, a new stadium became a real possibility thanks to bond revenue set aside for the project.
The $42 million state of the art facilities will include artificial turf, a rubber track, new bleachers, a press box, concessions, lighting and more. It will be used not only for school athletics, but also community events. [Fox 5]
