Tepper Sports & Entertainment (TSE), which owns the National Football League’s (NFL) Carolina Panthers, and the city of Charlotte have unveiled a proposed partnership that would see the city contribute $650 million toward renovations of Bank of America Stadium.
Confirmed:
- Renovation would cost US$800 million in total, with TSE investing US$150 million in the project and covering potential overages
- Charlotte’s US$650 million contribution would come from existing hospitality and tourism tax, which legally must be spent on projects that drive visitors to the city
- Development would not lead to any increased or new taxes
- Proposed deal includes a 20-year non-relocation agreement, which would keep the Panthers in Charlotte for foreseeable future
- TSE estimates it will spend a further US$421 million on capital improvements over the term of the deal
- Renovation will see new seats installed throughout the stadium bowl, expanded team store, upgraded video and audio systems, including the scoreboard and video board, improved accessibility, venue safety and security enhancements, and upgraded restrooms
- Other plans include a reimagined south lawn pavilion area that would be used for community gatherings and as an outdoor classroom, as well as modernised infrastructure that would make the venue more sustainable [SportsMedia.com]
El Monte Union High School District and city of El Monte officials joined dozens of students, parents and support at Mountain View High School on Thursday, May 30, to celebrate the ribbon cutting for the school’s new, modernized stadium.
The revamped Viking Stadium — funded through the district’s Measure HS bond approved in 2018 — features a new rubberized track and field, bleachers, concession stands, and a grand stadium entrance.
The bond, which has totaled more than $190 million for the district, aims at improving facilities across EMUHSD campuses and helping to retain teachers. Groundbreaking on the facility began January 2023. [San Gabriel Valley Tribune]
Bethel’s municipal pool and fitness center sit at the edge of a large swath of tundra – and that was purposeful. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Fitness Center was built to be able to expand.
And thanks to a federal grant of $9 million, passed through to Bethel by the state of Alaska, the city is working toward that expansion now, which will add a gymnasium facility onto the fitness center building.
Bethel City Clerk Lori Strickler said that there are some essential elements: a basketball gym, community rooms, and a community computer lab.
“Our goal is to provide internet access, computer access, printers, for free for the community, and then it will also provide the only community gym space that Bethel would be able to – all residents and visitors at Bethel would be able to use,” Strickler said. [KYUK]
