Alabama Athletics has formally proposed a Coleman Coliseum Basketball Training & Player Development Facility Expansion and Renovation, which is pending approval from the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees. The Board's Physical Properties Committee today recommended Stage I and II approval.
The proposed project consists of a 48,000 square-foot expansion on the southeast corner of Coleman Coliseum while renovating approximately 19,000 square feet of existing team space. Within that footprint, men's and women's basketball will have their own respective practice facilities and weight rooms along with player development areas for both teams, locker rooms, lounges, film rooms, equipment room, sports medicine spaces and offices.
All projects are subject to approval of the University of Alabama System Board of Trustees, presidential approval and fundraising success. [Rolltide.com]
On Thursday morning, well ahead of the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, University of Virginia football players were invited to get their first glimpses of their new home.
“It was crazy,” junior kicker Will Bettridge said, “everything I expected and more.”
Veteran Cavaliers such as Bettridge have been anxiously waiting the completion of the 93,000-square-foot operations center since construction began two years ago.
That wait officially came to an end Thursday as the doors opened to a dazzling building located next to the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility off Massie Road.

Voters approved a $3.75 million bond to go towards a new stadium at York High School on May 18. The remaining balance comes from $1.25 million from the school fund balance and $1.06 million in fundraising, according to school officials. The new field will be built in the same location where the current one has existed for decades.
School officials expect the project to have its schematic design completed between June and July, according to a timeline provided by the York School Department. The permitting process with the town will then take place between August and May, as well as with the Maine Department of Environmental Protection.
Bidding for the project will take place this fall. Construction will last from May until November 2025, school officials estimate. [Foster's Daily Democrat]
