The University of Tennessee has selected designers and developers for its ambitious Neyland Entertainment District that will transform Vols game days and the Tennessee River waterfront on campus.

A hybrid condo-hotel with a rooftop restaurant and bar will overlook Neyland Stadium. And a lively entertainment hub will be created in the area between Neyland Stadium and Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.

UT has assembled the team for the bold project.

It includes a management team that spurred the success of sports entertainment districts surrounding stadiums for the Atlanta Braves, St. Louis Cardinals, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers and Philadelphia’s Phillies, Flyers and Eagles. [KnoxNews.com]

Calgary Flames coach Ryan Huska said he believes the construction of a new events center will help the team recruit some key on-ice talent.

Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation, the group that owns the Flames, and the city of Calgary unveiled renderings of the new events center named Scotia Place on Monday.

"To see the design and the layout and all the different types of architecture, for me, this is going to be a pretty incredible building that I think is going to, selfishly for our hockey team, attract players, I feel," Huska said. "I think it's going to be a place where people are going to want to spend time around. The look of it ... I was a little bit blown away to be quite honest with the design that was put into it. I'm excited.

"I wish we could fast forward a little bit right now."

The Flames are rebuilding after finishing 38-39-5 last season and missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the third time in four seasons.

The arena will have a capacity for 18,400 fans and is scheduled to open in the fall of 2027. [NHL.com]

Robertsdale High School looks more like a construction zone than a place of higher learning these days.

“I’ve heard all about it,” says Superintendent Eddie Tyler. “They need to take a breath and pretty soon, it’s going to be a beautiful site.”

More than $6 million is being spent on a new gym, a new band room, and other improvements.

A new baseball field house is among the improvements coming to Foley High School, along with the Lady Lions getting some new digs and a new band room. [WKRG]
