The Watertown City School District’s repair bill after recent flooding is now more than $4 million and the high school gymnasium floor does have to be replaced.
At first, school officials believed it would have a reprieve from the million-dollar replacement.
However, Superintendent Larry Schmiegel says that while the gym can still be used as the new school year starts up, it will have to be replaced because of the weather that happened days after the original flooding.
“There’s a soil ground under that gymnasium and so with the amount of rain that we got after the fact, it just kept putting moisture back into the space. When state Homeland Security officials toured the gym, they said they’ve never seen a gym floor with that much water on it not get replaced,” he said. [WWNY]
