Man Injures Leg on Punching Bag, Sues Gym

Punchingbag

To Avoid A Lawsuit, It Might Be Worth Warning Your Members About Kicking Punching Bags Like This OneIt's one of every club owner's worst fears: getting sued. And nothing is worse than getting sued over something most would deem frivolous. Well, file this one into that category.

Sydney Mulder of St. Clair County, Wisconsin blames the Gold's Gym where he was practicing martial arts for causing an unspecified leg injury after he kicked "a heavy bag."

Mulder says the gym should have warned him of the dangers of kicking the punching bag. According to The Madison-St. Clair Record, "Mulder blames [Gold's Gym parent company] GGI Holdings for causing his injuries, saying it negligently failed to maintain its premises, failed to warn of hazardous conditions and allowed the heavy bag to be present when it knew it could cause injuries during martial arts training."

Not only does Mulder say he injured his leg, but according to court documents he says he has experienced pain and suffering, medical costs and lost wages. He is seeking a judgment of more than $50,000, plus other relief from GGI Holdings.
