According to K92.3 Iowa, the new locker room has all the bells and whistles players and coaches could want in 2024.

As can be seen in photos and videos the team posted to Instagram, the space is decked out in Hawkeye black and gold. Players are met with the rallying cry, ‘Swarm’ as they enter the space. There is school-specific branding everywhere. The lockers include digital name plates with the player’s number, position and hometown information. The locker spaces themselves are padded and include seating and tons of storage. Even the ceiling displays the glowing message, ‘Hawkeye Football.’ Herky the Hawk is everywhere in this new locker room.
According to The Daily Iowan, the budget for this locker room project was set at $2.5 million, funded by gifts and athletic department earnings. The football team’s locker room had not been updated since 2013, and after 11 seasons it was showing a significant amount of wear and tear.
On social media, fans and former players expressed excitement over the new space. They were equally excited by the fact that the visiting team locker room saw no updates, remaining a blank canvas for Hawkeye opponents.
As players and coaches spend so much time in the locker room preparing for games, building community and celebrating victories, a modern space is essential for a successful team. The Hawkeyes will put it all to the test when their season kicks off on August 31, 2024 against Illinois State.
