A school district in Texas is hiring a second athletic director to oversee girls' sports as part of an overall restructuring of the district athletic department.

Greenville ISD is hiring a girls athletic director who would also be the head volleyball coach and the boys' athletic director would continue to be the head coach of the football team.

According to the Banner Herald, by having two people splitting administrative duties, the district’s intention is for both to be able to manage the district’s other sports (in addition to football and volleyball) more effectively, Jarvis said.

The school also plans to eliminate the assistant athletic director position and one of the two existing athletic coordinator position.

The board has approved head coach stipends of $17,200 for football and $8,000 for volleyball. Assistant superintendent of human resources Heath Jarvis said he based the recommended stipends off of an average of those offered at other 5A Texas high schools whose athletic directors were also head coaches.

Jarvis projected that the minimum amount in compensation (salary plus stipends) for the girls AD position would be $97,428 with a midpoint estimate of $114,826; and a minimum for the boys AD of $106,628 with a midpoint of $124.026.
