The heat wave moving its way across the United States has impacted millions of people, including those playing in and working at sporting events.
On Tuesday, an assistant referee passed out in the first half of Peru's Cope América Group A match against Canada at Kansas City's Children's Mercy Park.
According to ESPN, Humberto Panjoj collapsed during stoppage time in the first half, with Canada goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau attracting the attention of medical staff.
The Guatemalan official was treated on the sidelines and briefly got back on his feet before being taken off on a stretcher.
For the majority of the first half, approximately two-thirds of the field was covered in shade by the stadium’s stands. Yet the section not in shadow was where Panjoj was stationed.
At halftime, nearly every fan seated in the west side of the arena moved towards shaded areas of the stadium.
According to the AccuWeather, the temperature in Kansas City is expected to reach a high of 93 degrees Fahrenheit, with a feels-like temperature of 101, on Tuesday, with a humidity of 53 percent.
Canada won the game 1-0 with a second-half goal from Jonathan David.
