Marshall County (Tenn.) High School’s baseball game was thrown into chaos on Tuesday evening when a car crashed into the visiting team bleachers.
According to WSMV4, the driver experienced a medical emergency, causing them to veer off the road and into the baseball game. The Toyota Camry lodged under the side of the metal bleachers. Thankfully, no players or fans were injured in the crash. First responders reported that the car came within inches of striking fans, concessions, the press box and other more populated areas of the field.
In the wake of the crash, a broken fence was left bordering the high school’s baseball field and the busy road beside it, and neighbors told WSMV4 that this isn’t the first time a car has lost control and threatened the ball field.
“You would think, especially with the kids being here, that people would be considerate and be slow. With that (stadium) being so close to the road as well, it does make it dangerous,” nearby homeowner Erin Freeman said. “A guardrail would be wonderful, and so would speed bumps just to help slow traffic down.”
In a statement, the director of schools, Justin Perry, and the Marshall County baseball team said, “Thankfully there were no major injuries and no one got hit. Praise GOD!! We would like to thank all of the emergency personnel for their quick response to the driver and law enforcement personnel for securing the scene. Also, the parents of Murfreesboro Central Magnet were troopers and stuck it out to the end. We wish the driver a speedy recovery!”
The baseball game was able to resume when the driver and car were safely removed, and Marshall County fell to its opponents, Murfreesboro Central Magnet High School.
