Two workers were burned at the Cleveland Browns stadium construction site in what is believed to have been an accident involving methane gas.

According to WJW Cleveland, a Brook Park Fire Department report notes "a pocket of methane gas ignited."

A 911 call shows a man requesting an ambulance, saying, "I have two individuals with injuries … I need an ambulance."

"We got a call for a gas explosion, methane gas explosion, that caused burns for two of their employees," Brook Park Fire chief Eric Fike said.

The men were reportedly doing some welding, and first responders were warned in advance that there could be pockets of methane gas upon their arrival.

"When we got there, we learned it was more of a flash fire or a blast that happened," the chief added. "Where they were doing the welding was at grade, at ground-level, but it appeared that a methane pocket must have drifted up to the area where they were at."

The men were taken to a local hospital for the treatment of burns to the hands and face.

The Haslam Sports Group released the following statement about the worksite emergency:

"We were made aware of the incident shortly after it occurred. Work at the site was immediately paused while our construction partners investigated the cause. Following that investigation, work resumed. The safety of everyone on this project is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with our construction partners to support a safe jobsite."
