Facility Friday: K-State Master Plan, FSU's Unconquered Campaign

Kansas State University has unveiled a new facility master plan, calling for $210 million in construction for the school’s 16 athletics programs. The 10- to 15-year plan calls for upgrades to the south end zone at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, a new volleyball arena, a new Olympic Performance Training Facility, a new indoor football facility and outdoor practice field, a renovation to Bramlage Coliseum, a new indoor track and field facility, a renovation for the Brandeberry Indoor Complex, a new indoor tennis facility, a new soccer practice pavilion, and improvements to the men’s and women’s golf complex. Florida State University announced a new campaign called Unconquered, with the goal of raising $100 million for athletics. The five-year campaign will fund a standalone football headquarters, a redesigned golf course, a redeveloped strength training and conditioning space, new amenities and improvements at Dick Howser Stadium, and renovations for men’s and women’s basketball at the Tucker Center. The University of Iowa recently rededicated the Gerdin Athletic Learning Center (GALC). The facility was expanded by 28,000 square feet, and received new study space and meeting rooms as a part of the recent renovation. —HawkeyeSports.com

A jumbotron at George Washington University’s Charles E. Smith Center collapsed onto the court this week. The unit was undergoing maintenance and was in a lowered position just above the floor when it unexpectedly dropped. Nobody was hurt, but the school is evaluating whether any damage was done to the court or the jumbotron. —NBCWashington.com

The Ohio State University announced plans to build a new $21.9 million tennis center. The facility, to be named the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, will be built in the school’s athletics districts adjacent to pre-existing outdoor courts. The 75,000-square-foot facility will feature six indoor courts with seats for spectators, locker rooms and training facilities. It will serve both the men’s and women’s tennis programs. —OhioStateBuckeyes.com
