BYU Athletics today announced plans for a new hitting facility at Miller Park for its baseball and softball programs. Construction on the new indoor facility is underway with completion projected by summer 2025.
The 6,000-square foot facility will be located down the third base line at Larry H. Miller Field between the current stands and the baseball bullpen. The facility includes four batting cages with field turf, providing six total indoor cages for the two programs.
In addition to the hitting facility, the construction also includes a new baseball VIP hosting area above the facility with 200 field level seats just east of the BYU dugout.
“The new hitting facility is an important addition for our baseball and softball programs,” said BYU director of athletics Tom Holmoe. “This facility will enhance both programs and provide new opportunities for our student-athletes to improve and be successful. We would like to express our appreciation to the BYU Board of Trustees, the central administration and the donors who helped make this project a reality.” [BYU]
San Diego FC made it official with a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate their new Sharp Performance Training Facility and Right to Dream Academy in El Cajon.
"The opening of this wonderful facility caps an incredibly busy period," says team Chairman Sir Mohamed Monsour. "Whenever I come here I feel so peaceful and the environment here is so amazing."
The facility is like no other. The 50,000 square foot facility includes 3 natural grass soccer fields, 2 synthetic turf fields, a gym and rehabilitation center, a kitchen, a dining area, a lockerroom and so much more
"This is an ambitious project. We are here to win. You heard us say it, we are here to win and we are not afraid to say it. Also, how we win matters as well," says SDFC head coach Mikey Varas. [ABC News San Diego 10]
It is exactly one week away from first pitch of Georgia Southern’s baseball season. Last year, the Eagles were one win shy of making it to the NCAA Tournament, so they’re extra hungry to accomplish that goal this year. On Friday, the program took major steps toward reaching that goal.
The university broke ground on its new baseball facility. The old 6,000 square-foot building has been demolished and is being replaced by a 16,000 square-foot building that includes new locker rooms, a fuel station, a rehab facility, and a training facility with a pitching lab and hitting bays.
“This project is going to change the gameday environment, change for our student-athlete development, change the area for our coaches and our staff,” said athletic director Chris Davis. “We’re really fired up, not only here at Georgia Southern, but the impact this will make in the state, the southeast, and nationally for our program.” [WTOC]
