The Solon Board of Education voted unanimously on Feb. 10 to approve a $2.7 million contract with Infinity Construction to restore the district’s natatorium.
The restoration will focus on building structure upgrades rather than the pool or dive well, according to Solon City Schools Superintendent Fred Bolden.
“The project includes roofing, structural repairs, completion of a lighting upgrade for the interior of the pool area, fire suppression systems, and painting,” Bolden said.
The natatorium, built in 1981, is undergoing renovations due to its age and the district’s commitment to maintaining safe facilities for students, he said.
Funding for the renovations will come from existing district funds, meaning there will be no additional cost to taxpayers. [The Plain Dealer Cleveland]
Mobile, Ala., city officials celebrated Friday after bids for a new Civic Center arena came in slightly under their target.
“It’s come in a little under budget, and that’s very gratifying,” Mobile mayor Sandy Stimpson said after the bid opening. “It’s a good way to end a Friday afternoon, and it’s a good way to start Mardi Gras: to tell all of our revelers that yes, we’re going to build an arena.”
Last year, Stimpson announced the city’s plan to demolish the existing civic center and replace it with a brand-new arena. The new, modern arena is meant to be able to accommodate sporting events, Mardi Gras balls, and concerts. [AL.com]
