First Pitch, Family Fun Set For New Lenox's Wintrust Crossroads Sports Complex Grand Opening
Just more than a year after its groundbreaking, the Village of New Lenox is set to celebrate the first pitch at its Wintrust Crossroads Sports Complex.
The massive, $70 million complex is touted as one of Mayor Tim Baldermann's "legacy projects"—one he says residents will see the benefits of for years to come.
"This sports complex was built as an economic development for our community," Baldermann told Patch. "The I-355 corridor is chock-full of warehouses and trucking. We wanted something more valuable for this prime real estate, especially being next to the hospital and medical campus. Not only will young people be able to play competitive sports on a first class facility, but the amenities that will come to that area will benefit New Lenox for decades to come."
New Athletic Complex to Be Built at Halifax County High School
A new Halifax County High School will open its doors at the end of the summer and on its heels, the old high school building will be demolished and a new athletic complex built in its place.
The Halifax County School Board has opted to build a new athletic complex instead of renovating the old facilities, sticking with the same contractors and architects that worked with them on the high school construction project. At the board’s Thursday evening meeting, the contractors — Shockey & Sons — and architects — Grimm + Parker — presented to them a draft design for a new, $16.6 million athletic complex as well as a timeline for the construction project.
“This is an exciting project, and I think it’s the first time the public is going to hear a lot of this information,” Board Chair Derek Mason commented, before Steve Mundt, a partner with Grimm + Parker, began his presentation.
Rapid City Picks Location for New Sports Complex
Monday, Rapid City Mayor Jason Salamun announced the location for the new sports complex in North Rapid.
“We have been working very hard on this since I’ve been mayor and even well before that,” Salamun said.
The sports complex will include an indoor turf soccer field, eight basketball courts that can transform into volleyball and pickleball courts.
“It needs to be convertible to meet the needs of the community, and so all sports are on the table,” says Domico Rodriguez, Rapid City sports commission.
