University of Oklahoma Approves Massive Stadium Renovation
The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents approved the first step in a massive construction project for the Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The project will focus on the west side of the football stadium, the oldest part of the facility.
“(We’re) addressing those structural issues that are part of an over 100-year-old project,” said Joe Harroz, OU President.
It’s expected to cost $450 million, paid for through athletic funds and private donors.
South Dakota State To Build New Soccer Stadium
The week is off to a pretty good start for South Dakota State soccer.
On Sunday they defeated Oral Roberts in Tulsa to clinch their third consecutive Summit League tournament championship, and on Monday, the same day in which they discovered their NCAA tournament destination, the school announced plans to build the team an on-campus soccer field. The Jacks soccer team presently plays at Fishback Soccer Park in southern Brookings, making them the last varsity team without an on-campus home.
The new facility will be built on lot east of Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium, where the Jackrabbits football team used to practice.
Dakota Layers LLC and the Ramsdell Family provided the lead gifts for the facility and will receive naming rights.
The facility will provide a new playing field, lights, a new scoreboard, permanent seating, covered benches and a press box.
University of Lynchburg Opens New Golf Training Center
The University of Lynchburg’s golf team has new digs and a state-of-the-art Trackman golf simulator, thanks to a $150,000 gift from Jacque and Sean Grzebin, a Florida couple whose son, Sean Grzebin Jr. ’29, is a player on the men’s squad.
The Grzebin’s gift established the KP Performance Center, named for Jacque Grzebin’s mother, the late Katherine Purdy. While Purdy didn’t play golf, Jacque Grzebin said her mother, who raised her as a single parent, “had absolutely nothing, but found a way to live a very positive life by putting others first and believing in someone who may not have that support.”
The KP Performance Center is located at Wake Field House in what was once a racquetball court. On the first floor, there are lockers, above which hangs a banner celebrating the 2025 NCAA Division III individual golf title won by Eddie Coffren V ’25.
