Developer Breaks Ground on High-End Fitness Club in Bend, Oregon

Developers are beginning construction on what will become a 50,000-square-foot athletic club with a swimming pool, courts and an outdoor food cart pod along Skyliners Road in Bend, Ore.

The Skyliner Club is expected to be completed by summer 2027. It will take several months for crews to complete underground work before they start with vertical building.  The project is led by John Malfatto, a local entrepreneur and project manager, and Rob McDonald, co-owner of Stand on Liquid and Latitude 44 Sports.

They envision the high-end athletic club not only as a place for dues-paying members, but where people from the neighborhood can meet friends or stop to eat after a mountain bike ride at nearby Phil’s Trailhead. McDonald and Malfatto said fundraising and planning efforts over the past several years showed the vision is something people want.

Major Pickleball and Padel Facility Opens in Peachtree City

A major new sports facility is opening its doors on Sunday as Let’s Go Pickleball and Padel celebrates its grand opening from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

General Manager Chase Mason says the celebration will include competitions, prizes, and appearances from pros playing on the courts. The Peachtree City location is the franchise’s first indoor court facility, offering a 53,000-square-foot space dedicated solely to pickleball and padel athletes and enthusiasts.

Peachtree City has long been a hub for the fast-growing sport. The PTC Fayette Pickleball Club now has more than 750 members, making it one of the largest pickleball clubs in Georgia, a key reason the franchise chose the city for its first indoor complex.

Texas A&M Approves Slate of New Projects

The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents on Thursday approved a slate of projects that, taken together, say something simple and unmistakable: this is a university system that feeds Texas, fields champions, and takes care of its students where they live.

The Regents approved construction of a new Meat Sciences and Technology Center at the RELLIS Campus, a major Player Development Center at Blue Bell Park for the Texas A&M baseball program, and a full modernization of the air-conditioning system at Hart Hall, one of the oldest residence halls on the College Station campus.

The new Meat Sciences and Technology Center is a $114.6 million investment that will replace an aging facility with a modern complex designed for teaching, research and agricultural extension. Funding will come from a combination of Permanent University Fund bonds, revenue-backed financing, and institutional funds.

The Player Development Center at Blue Bell Park, budgeted at $28.3 million, will feature expanded batting and pitching labs, sports medicine facilities, a home clubhouse, strength and conditioning spaces, and team meeting rooms. The project will be funded through a blend of philanthropic gifts and revenue-backed financing supported by future gifts.

The renovations to Hart Hall total $9.97 million and will be financed through revenue-backed debt supported by student housing income. The project replaces aging heating systems and individual window units with modern, energy-efficient air conditioning, fresh-air circulation and digital climate controls to improve student comfort and building performance.
