A competition presented by T-Mobile could help one lucky high school win a multi-million dollar football field upgrade. On top of the grand prize winner, T-Mobile is also promising 16 individual schools up to $25,000 in prize money to upgrade their fields.
A competition presented by T-Mobile could help one lucky high school win a multi-million dollar football field upgrade. On top of the grand prize winner, T-Mobile is also promising 16 individual schools up to $25,000 in prize money to upgrade their fields.
The competition, Friday Night 5G Lights, is working with football legend Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski to give back to high school football teams. There were originally more than 1,700 entries to the competition. Now, T-Mobile has narrowed it down to 16 finalists who will compete for the multi-million dollar grand prize.
According to Patch.com, these 16 schools automatically win, “$25,000, a T-Mobile-hosted home game (complete with activities and rewards) and a shot at the grand prize: a $100,000 grant for the school, weight room from GronkFitness.com, new teched-out scoreboard, consultation with football field experience experts, 5G network upgrades package and an epic tailgate party celebration.”
The participating schools come from across the country. There are schools representing California, Texas, North Carolina, Missouri, and many more. Currently, Paradise High School in Paradise, Calif., has the most likes: 190,316. However, their competition isn’t far behind.
Full descriptions of each school, including their student body population and location, can be found on the Friday Night 5G Lights website. The schools also include information on why the stadium upgrade would be beneficial to their programs. For example, Greenwood High School in Greenwood, Ark., said, “We pursue excellence in the classroom and in competition, boasting several state championships, and believe our facility should reflect the dedication of our students and staff. After 30 years without updates, a renovated stadium would show we support and represent the ‘G’.”
Fans have until November 12 to engage with the school’s social media hype videos. The video with the most likes by the end of the competition will be the grand prize winner. All updates to the grand prize-winning school will be completed by the 2025 season.
