University of Nebraska Omaha Brass Approve $67.5M in New Facilities for Arena
Chancellor Joanne Li and Director of Athletics Adrian Dowell are looking for approval on a $67.5 million privately funded plan to bring new facilities to the Baxter Arena and Maverick Park grounds in the near future.
The UNO brass will go in front of the university system’s Board of Regents on Friday, Dec. 5 to introduce the proposal to members of the board, looking to supply Omaha athletics with brand-new technology and a much-needed upgrade of Sapp Fieldhouse.
The main arguing point is that Sapp Fieldhouse is no longer suitable for the vision that Omaha has for its athletic program. With it being the second-oldest building on campus, the Fieldhouse has run its course and can no longer meet the wants and needs of a Division 1 program like Omaha.
